Company History

     Western Engineering, Ltd. was originally organized on March 14, 1973 under the corporate name of MOCA, Seventy Three, Ltd. The corporation was originally formed to construct concrete forms to be used on various construction projects throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
     Fifty percent of Western Engineering's stock was owned by Duane J. Cargill and fifty percent by John Moore. In November of 1978, Duane Cargill purchased John Moore's share of stocks and changed the company's name to Western Engineering, Ltd. The company immediately began to take on projects as a general contractor with success. Today, hundred percent of the company's stock is owned by Duane J. Cargill.
     Duane Cargill has guided this diversified construction firm to 12th largest in Hawaii. This success is based on skill and a careful approach. Western Engineering's accomplishments include a range of varied projects, from commercial, medical, and industrial, to school, shopping centers, and affordable housing. Mr. Cargill has achieved this success through hands-on management and a desire to produce outstanding results. And like him, Western Engineering's managers and supervisors are experienced in every aspect of construction, from preliminary estimates to the actual trades involved.
     Another key component of Western Engineering's success is their accuracy with cost estimates. A complete open book on negotiated projects is also offered. Quotations, pricing, general requirements and mark-ups are disclosed. Since 1995 Western Engineering has also participated in design/build projects. Most of these projects were in affordable housing with the Department of Hawaiian Homelands.
     Construction is competitive everywhere, and keenly so in Hawaii. Western Engineering's track record demonstrates a capability to build with quality and complete on time at reasonable cost.
